King Khan (aka Canadian garage rocker Arish Ahmad Khan) has been around the block once or twice. Between fronting King Khan and the Shrines and The King Khan & BBQ show, not to mention being a member of The Almighty Defenders, Khan knows garage rock like few others. In fact, he may be taking his love affair with garage music to a new level with his next release.
Scion A/V, a subsidiary of the company that makes those boxed-shaped vehicles, is a full-service music company (offering artist promotion, marketing, tour support, etc.) to clients like Dam-Funk, Big Freedia, Cro-Mags, and more. Khan recently joined that lineup, and Scion/AV is now releasing his new eight-track EP, The King Khan Experience. For an idea of where Khan is at sonically, CoS has an exclusive sneak peak of the standout track “Come Levitate With Me”.
Always known for a pyschedelic-tinged sound, the groove factor gets turned up to 11 in “Come Levitate With Me”. The track also exudes a retro rock feel a la Tom Petty, although with a slightly more seedy vibe to it. And no trip through ’70s rock history is complete without a little Jethro Tull flute action. Check out the trippy affair below.
Pitchfork also debuted a track from the effort in the rollicking “I Got Love”. The entire EP will be released as a free digital download on October 25th at scionav.com.
