According to Ryan Adams, you can credit Laura Marling for his latest LP, Ashes & Fre. Considered by many as one of the singer-songwriter’s finest works in a decade, Adams told The Guardian that the album only came to fruition after he heard Marling’s 2010 LP I Speak Because I Can. “I thought: ‘For fuck’s sake’. I literally threw out 80% of what I had. And it felt good, to ask: ‘What am I really capable of?’ I felt competitive again to write great songs.”
Fittingly, the two artists appeared together on Channel 4’s Live From Abbey Road on Wednesday night, where they performed Adams’ classic track “Oh My Sweet Carolina”. Watch the replay below.
