Newcastle, UK’s own Beth Jeans Houghton has been delighting international folk communities since the release of her first four-track EP back in 2008. Now with the support of the Mute Records, Houghton and her backing band The Hooves of Destiny are hoping for a very busy and prosperous 2012 behind their debut full-length, Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose. Not only is Houghton the principal singer and songwriter, but the 21-year-old also plays the guitar, keyboard, banjo, and loop pedal on the 10-track, Ben Hillier-produced album. The experimental songstress has some skills behind the camera as well, choosing to direct the music video for the album’s lead single “Sweet Bird Tooth”.
The video opens with the sound of the wind whipping through a post-apocalyptic society, then the track’s vibrant trumpet arrangements and jovial beat push to the surface as the video’s damsel searches for colorful, miniatures figurines in the desolate landscape. When she finds more trouble than she can handle, a hero awaits with lifesaver in hand to keep her safe. Watch the adventure below.
Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose drops February 28th in the U.S. via Mute Records.
