Joining a storied group of rockers like Mastodon and Josh Homme, alt-country outfit Lambchop have lent their talents to Adult Swim by re-recording the theme for Squidbillies. According to frontman Kurt Wagner, their aim was to “make the song a little less hick and a little more Nashville type of way”, utilizing Wagner’s wail-like croon, a string quartet, and a violin solo by pianist Tony Crow’s son for something truly elegant, even if it is used by a show about anthropomorphic redneck squids. The episode with the band’s theme will air on Adult Swim this Sunday (8/5) at 12:15 A.M. Below, you can watch the opening credits followed by the behind-the-scenes interview with Wagner.

The band’s latest album, the Top Star-earning Mr. M, is out now via Merge Records.
