Video: Houndmouth – “Penitentiary”

What: New Albany, IN folk-rock band Houndmouth’s song “Penitentiary” is a prime example of their dichotomous sound/musical approach: its down-on-their-luck tale of forlorn represents the grit and depth of their Midwestern upbringing, while the rollicking, rootsy groove displays their penchant for the punchier side of rock and roll. Translating that aesthetic into visuals, the accompanying music video is simultaneously a heartbreaking and heartwarming tale of the depths one couple will go to just to survive.

The band’s self-titled EP is out now via Rough Trade Records.
