All day today, attendees of the third annual Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City battled torrential downpours, high winds, and lots of mud stemming from a tropical system heading up the Eastern seaboard. At around 9:00pm local time, festival organizers pulled the plug on the remainder of the day’s music — specifically, performances from headliners Kings of Leon and Pretty Lights.
Update: Kings of Leon will play a rescheduled set Saturday at 6:45pm on the main stage. Friday single-day tickets will be honored for today’s festivities.
The festival said in a statement: “Due to sustained high winds and unsafe stage conditions, Kings of Leon and Pretty Lights are unable to perform. Please get home safely. Weather looks great tomorrow.”
Governors Ball is set to continue tomorrow with performances by Guns N’ Roses, Nas, Kendrick Lamar, Animal Collective, and Alt-J. Then on Sunday, the festival will conclude with sets from Kanye West, The xx, The Avett Brothers, and Grizzly Bear, among others.
