London Grammar, who recently put out their Metal & Dust EP and guested on Disclosure’s excellent Settle track “Help Me Lose My Mind”, seem to waste no time when it comes to turning out new material. This week, the UK trio debuted a new single, “Strong”, on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. Though a bare-bones type of number instrumentally, the song’s highlight, hero and source of its gripping emotional strength is frontwoman Hannah Reid and her cavernous, ache-filled vocals that rise from velvety croon to voluminous proclamation effortlessly. The group show, once again (see: “Hey Now” and “Wasting My Young Years”), their ability to enrapture with just the simplest of elements.
“Strong” is officially out on September 1st and will also appear on London Grammar’s forthcoming debut album.
