While Lady Gaga has yet to respond to Lana Del Rey’s seething diss track, there’s another musician who’s got words for the “ghetto Nancy Sinatra”: Chicago singer-songwriter Willis Earl Beal. The acousamatic sorcerer’s “Black Beauty (A response to Lana Del Rey from Willis Earl Beal)” is, if you hadn’t already guessed, Beal’s reaction to Del Rey’s recently-surfaced “Black Beauty”. Sadly, it’s got nothing to do with the beloved children’s book.

Sampling bits and pieces of Del Rey’s vocals, Beal shifts between romantic compliments (comparing her red lips to stars in the sky) and musings that are either romantic or, more likely, meant as little reality checks (“What can I do/Life is pitiful/You don’t have a clue”). Maybe the rest of us have other choice words for Ms. Del Rey, but no one’s gonna say them with as much intensity and passion as Beal readily displays. Listen in below.

Beal’s sophomore album, Nobody knows., is due out September 10th via XL Records imprint Hot Charity. For non-Lana love songs, be sure to listen to “Everything unwinds.” and “Too Dry To Cry”.
