As previously reported, Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O has reunited with filmmaker Spike Jonze. If you recall, Karen previously scored Jonze’s 2009 film Where the Wild Things Are. This go-around, she’s contributing an original composition called “The Moon Song” to Jonze’s forthcoming flick Her. (Arcade Fire provided the score for Her.)

The film doesn’t hit theaters until December 18th, but today “The Moon Song” was premiered online (via Pitchfork). The delicate acoustic number was recorded by Karen in her home, inspired by the film.

“It’s a movie set in the slight future of L.A. and Joaquin Phoenix’s character buys the world’s first artificially intelligent operating system (voiced by Johansson),” Jonze said of the film. “It basically turns into a human, this entity, this consciousness, on his computer.” Ultimately, the relationship evolves “into something more romantic.”

In the film, the song is sung by Joaquin Phoenix and Scarlett Johansson’s characters.

Karen O’s version is streaming below. It’s also available for free download, though only for the first 10,000 copies.
