The Mercury Prize is the annual award given to the best album from the United Kingdom and Ireland. Last year, Alt-J took home the honors, and other past recipients include The xx, Arctic Monkeys, Pulp, PJ Harvey, Portishead, Primal Scream, Badly Drawn Boy, and Antony and the Johnsons.
The nominees for 2013 were announced today and include David Bowie’s The Next Day, Arctic Monkeys’ AM, James Blake’s Overgrown, Disclosure’s Settle, Savages’ Silence Yourself, Foals’ Holy Fire, Jon Hopkins’ Immunity, and Laura Marling’s Once I Was an Eagle.
The winner will be announced on October 30th and along with bragging rights, the prize includes £20,000.
