Beck debuts “Wave” from new album Morning Phase

Beck

On Sunday night, Beck staged another performance of Song Reader, this time at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The star-studded evening saw the singer-songwriter backed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, as well as special guests like Pulp’s Jarvis CockerJenny LewisChildish GambinoJack BlackVan Dyke Parks, and actor-turned-musician John C. Reilly, among others.

Most noteworthy, though, was the debut of the non-Song Reader track entitled “Wave”. According to a recent interview with Rolling Stone, the song is set to appear on February’s Morning Phase and was described by the publication as being inspired by “mid-Sixties Scott Walker and Love’s Forever Changes.” More so, with Morning Phase a sequel to 2003’s Sea Change, the track’s stark elegance and emphasis on sweeping vocals is a clear-cut continuation of the latter’s bare-bones, emotionally-resonant approach. Catch the fan footage below.
