Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke announces new EP Heartbreaker, hear title track

During his time fronting Bloc PartyKele Okereke has frequently dabbled with the fringes of dance music, adding pulsing rhythms to the band’s driving guitar sound. When he went solo, that flirtation turned into a more direct and overt interest in hyper-sleek electro-pop. Now, the singer-songwriter continues his involvement into an electronic artist with the announcement of a full-on tech-house EP, Heartbreaker.

With his recent remix of Bloc Party’s “Obscene”, he’s shown he knows his way around a dark club mix, and the EP’s title track sees him comfortably continuing down that path. It’s much more beats and bass focused than anything he’s released before, with the vocal buried in the mix to readily display his ever-growing mixing skills. Listen in below.

Heartbreaker is due out on vinyl on Crosstown Rebels on November 25th, and digitally through Beatport on December 9th. Of the release, Okereke said, “I’ve always loved the inclusive and spiritual nature of house music, so the opportunity to make music for the most iconic and influential house music label in the UK is a dream come true for me.”
