Back in August, Chance The Rapper offered up an intriguing take on Kanye West‘s “All Falls Down”, mixing things up with weird pronunciation and a manic sense of pacing. During last night’s show in Syracuse, NY, the young MC took a real chance by covering Coldplay’s 2005 single “Fix You”. Though his excellent Acid Rap mixtape features some singing, there’s nothing quite like this performance: lots of attempts at achy falsetto notes and some oddly guttural moans, like Chance attended the Yoko Ono School of Singing. Some of it’s pretty (see 1:13 and 1:45), and some of it not so much (see 0:43), but it’s just refreshing to see another rapper exploring his voice (and displaying an affinity for Coldplay).
