Against Me! has unleashed “FUCKMYLIFE666”, the awesomely titled lead single off their forthcoming sixth studio album, Transgender Dysphoria Blues. Previously released as part of the acoustic True Trans EP, the studio version sees the band bridge the gap between the mainstream rock appeal of 2007’s New Wave with the visceral, heart-on-their sleeve intimacy and lyricism of 2003’s Against Me! as the Eternal Cowboy. While the title indicates cynical angst, frontwoman Laura Jane Grace has never sounded as focused and level-headed as she triumphantly embraces her own personal evolution. Listen in below.
Transgender Dysphoria Blues is due out January 21st, 2014 via the band’s own record label, Total Treble.
According to a press release, the album sees Laura Jane Grace explore themes of “gender dysphoria, the loss of a young friend and pure self discovery, as well as love and ultimate acceptance.” She’s joined by longtime guitarist James Bowman, drummer Atom Willard (The Offspring, Angels & Airwaves), and NOFX frontman Fat Mike on bass.
