Angel Haze has shown exceptional range with her “30 Gold” series. Already, she’s done a crushing version of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ “Same Love”, freestyled over everyone from Jay Z to Kendrick Lamar, and covered fake radio hits and British chart-toppers. Now, she returns to the Top 40 for a cover of OneRepublic’s “Counting Stars”. Much like she did with Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball”, Haze lets a simple acoustic guitar provide the background as she displays her own impressive vocal skills. It might not be as beautiful as her Cyrus rendition, but it’s not less an intriguing peek into what could be coming from Dirty Gold.
“3o Gold”, which has also featured Haze’s takes on tracks from Kanye West, Gil Scott-Heron, and Drake, is her lead up to her Dirty Gold debut, out later this year via Republic Records. Speaking to Rolling Stone about the album’s sound, Haze said, “I think it’s a melting pot of a ton of different genres. I worked with a bunch of people who were able to take what I wanted it to be and make it all very cohesive. With their help, I feel like I created my own genre.”
