British singer-songwriter Clare Maguire has been turning heads over the last few months, her bluesy vocals and covers earning her comparisons to iconic vocalists like Stevie Nicks and Annie Lennox. Previously she proved she could take on modern soulful pop with “Paper Thin”. Now on her latest offering, “Half-Hearted Love”, she dips into lo-fi, bare-bones folk, seemingly culled from decades past. Co-written by Jarvis Cocker, it’s a devastating number, Maguire’s sultry and soaring voice the perfect embodiment of a wounded character attempting to come to terms with a messed up lover.
