As previously reported, The National have contributed a brand new song to the Hunger Games: Catching Fire soundtrack. “Lean” is a gentle folk-rock ballad built on the simple and haunting cadence of a grand piano and light, skittering drums. Frontman Matt Berninger’s brooding baritone aims right for the heart with greater accuracy than Katniss Everdeen herself. Listen in below.
In addition to The National, the soundtrack features Lorde, The Weeknd (“Elastic Heart”), Antony and the Johnsons, Patti Smith, Santigold, and even Christina Aguilera. It’s due out November 19th via Republic Records, with the film following in theaters on November 22nd.
