U2 return today with “Ordinary Love”, their first new song in over three years, which was written specifically for the forthcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom. Stripping away some of the textures and experimental qualities of 2009’s No Line on the Horizonwhat remains is an uplifting, piano-heavy power ballad brimming with a quaint simplicity and heart-warming romanticism. Watch the accompanying lyric video below.

Update: According to Revolt, the track was produced by Danger Mouse.

As previously reported, “Ordinary Love” and a new version of No Line on the Horizon track “Breathe” will be released as a new 10″ single as part of Record Store Day’s Back to Black Friday” event on November 29th. As a follow-up, the band are set to release their new album in April 2014, with an announcement tentatively set to be made during the Super Bowl.
