Yesterday, it was reported that Nadya Tolokonnikova, the imprisoned member of Pussy Riot who went missing earlier this month, had turned up at a penal colony in Siberia. However, today Rolling Stone reports that Tolokonnikova is actually being treated in a Siberian hospital.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Tolokonnikova’s husband Peter Verzilov said a doctor from the hospital called him on Thursday. “She was in good condition. She said her conditions were OK. She’s not sick right now, she’s just having procedures and tests” related to her recent hunger strike.
Verzilov added that Tolokonnikova is still “in very strict isolation,” and it remains unclear where she’ll serve the rest of her prison sentence. It’s a possibility that she’ll remain in the hospital until her scheduled release in March 2014.
Tolokonnikova and fellow Pussy Riot members Yekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alekhina were sentenced to two years in prison after being found guilty of “hooliganism motivated by religious hatred or hostility” stemming from a protest at Moscow’s Christ the Saviour Cathedral. The collective were denouncing the ties between Russian President Vladimir Putin’s regime and the Russian Orthodox Church. Samutsevich has since been freed; however, both Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina are to remain in prison until March 2014.
