According to Billboard, U2 has zeroed in on an April 2014 release for their next album, which the band intends to announce during the Super Bowl. News of the April release date comes as U2’s manager, Paul McGuinness, has entered negotiations to sell his Principle Management company to Live Nation, which is also in talks to purchase Maverick, owned by Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary.
As previously reported, the band worked on the album with producer Danger Mouse, which included sessions at Electric Lady Studios in NYC. Bassist Adam Clayton recently discussed the album with an Irish radio station, calling it “a bit of a return to U2 of old, but with the maturity, if you like, of the U2 of the last 10 years.”
In the meantime, the band has a 10-inch single coming for Record Store Day “Back to Black Friday”, featuring a reworking of No Line on the Horizon’s “Breathe” and “Ordinary Love”, the band’s contribution to the forthcoming Nelson Mandela biopic, Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom.
