Over the weekend, Sub Pop Records launched a contest asking fans to guess their latest signee based on a 15-second sample. The record label wrote of the mystery act, “Every once in a while, we take a break from all that t-shirt stuff and we get to sign an artist that we’ve been HUGE fans of for years—artists with an established fan base who would be welcome at any record label that they please (why they choose us, we’ll never know).”

This epic description and intricate beats featured in the 15-second sample led some to theorize that Sub Pop had actually signed Radiohead or Thom Yorke. In fact, there was such excitement, Sub Pop actually issued a statement via Twitter to quell the rumor before it spread too far.

So, who’s the act with the established fan base and no record label that Sub Pop did in fact sign? That would be German electro-pop outfit The Notwist, who return February 25th with Close to the Glass, their first album in six years. Below, listen to the title track (via Pitchfork).
