On January 21st, Canadian experimental rockers Thee Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra (SMZ) will return with a new album, which is epically titled Fuck Off Get Free We Pour Light on Everything. It serves as the follow-up to 2010’s Kollapse Tradixionales and marks the band’s first single LP-length release since their debut record nearly 15 years ago. It’s also “the first definitive document of the band’s newfound sound and style as a quintet,” according to a press release.
The six-track effort sees SMZ exploring music that is more “laser-guided and bone-rattling than ever, melding hardcore, blues, garage and dark metal influences that have nothing to do with anything so quaint as ‘post-rock.'” For a taste of this new melding, preview the epic 14-minute track “Austerity Blues”, Efrim Menuck’s searing “take on a world replete with shabbiness, green, and injustice.”
