Watch: Angel Haze performs heart-wrenching spoken word piece, “You Broke My Heart”

angelhazeflag

Thus far in her “30 Gold” freestyle series, Angel Haze has offered up an even mixture of visceral rhymes and heartfelt covers. For the latest entry, though, Haze eschews the song format to instead deliver a spoken word piece entitled “You Broke My Heart”. Even without catchy beats or her knack for hooks, the rising rapper brings the lyrical venom, furiously striking back at a former lover who carelessly smashed her heart.

With Corinne Bailey Rae playing in the background, Haze, her voice a mixture of righteous indignation and tearful regret, will surely break your heart with pure nuggets of emotion like “You burned me alive and you never loved me all along, did you?/ I was never the one, I was only convenient, but why? All I wanted was to be every day of the rest of your life.” Prepare for the wave of goosebumps as you click play below.

Haze has covered tracks from Jay ZKanye WestKendrick LamarGil Scott-HeronDrake, Miley CyrusLana Del Rey, and Macklemore and Ryan Lewis as part of the “30 Gold” series, which serves as a precursor to her debut album, Dirty Gold, due out later this year via Republic Records.
