ASAP Rocky returns today with a star-studded new video for “Phoenix”, in support of his major label debut, LongLiveASAP. Emmy-nominated Francesco Carrozzini, with a story by Asia Argento (the daughter of horror icon Dario Argento), the video stars Michael K. Williams, a.k.a. Omar, Chalky White and MGMTs “Plant Hunter”, and supermodel Joan Smalls as a couple that gets into an intense domestic dispute. While Rocky has less screen time than other videos, the highly-stylized piece continues his trend of attention-grabbing videos that mix gritty real-world situations with pristine glamour and high fashion. As Rocky told MTV News, “This tale of a Phoenix is it dies and is reborn in its own ashes. So metaphorically we wanted to manifest that into my video.” Added Carrozzini, “Directing this video was like making a small movie with this amazing talent. A lot of my life went into it, it was sincere.”
