Nothing says the holidays like a copyright infringement lawsuit. As New York Daily News reports, Kanye West is being sued over a sample used on the Yeezus track “Bound 2”.
“Bound 2” samples “Bound”, a track recorded by the Ponderosa Twins Plus One in 1971. Lead singer Ricky Spicer told the Daily News that he never gave Kanye permission to use “Bound”, and that he only learned of “Bound 2″‘s existence while listening to the radio.
“Mr. Spicer’s voice is sampled exactly as he recorded it and his voice … is heard several times,” read the suit, filed Monday in Manhattan Supreme Court. Spicer is demanding that West compensate him or cease and desist from using his voice.
