There’s a lot of great stuff going on in this new commercial for Beats by Dre. Actually, it’s more like a short film, the best 90-second short film. I think we’re looking at an Oscar winner here, and Dr. Dre deserves a nod, too, because his acting hasn’t been this great since Training Day. The plot centers around the recording of a new Kendrick song, produced by Dre. Only it’s just not there, something’s missing, so Dre advises that they sleep on it. I won’t spoil the ending — oh, what the hell — Kendrick plays back the song at a barber shop, Dr. Dre existentially peers out of his multi-trillion dollar complex, and then BAAAAMMM, they both simultaneously realize: it’s the drums! World peace is achieved, Bambi’s mom lives another day.
