Listen: Black Lips’ new single, “Boys in the Wood”

blacklips2k131

As previously reported, Atlanta garage-rock outfit Black Lips will release their seventh album, Underneath the Rainbow, on March 18th via Vice Records. The 12-track effort was recorded over the last year in New York City and Nashville, with latter sessions helmed by The Black Keys’ Patrick Carney.

Our first taste comes in the form of “Boys in the Wood”. Though written about “doing bathtub drugs and drinking bathtub gin”, it’s far more even keeled than its subject matter implies. Instead, the boys have crafted a slow-moving, extra grimy ballad marked by the methodical churn of fuzzy guitars and drunken group harmonies, as if members of Modest Mouse and The Replacements started a country and western band. Listen in below.
