The last time we heard from alt-hip-hopper Danny!, he was out supporting his latest single, “For The Love Of Money”. While the South Carolina native is still at work on the track’s corresponding mixtape for next year, he’s taken a break to record a Christmas song to keep fans warm and cozy — sort of.
Cheery title aside, “Deckin’ Halls (And Jinglin’ Bells)” reps a yuletide celebration even less holly jolly than holiday rap tracks before its time (see: “Santa Claus Goes Straight to the Ghetto” or “Merry Muthafuckin’ Xmas”.) Instead, Danny! makes a carol that’s funky and almost sensual, dropping rhymes about getting lifted off eggnog and gift-wrapping us a classic chorus/Jay Z send-off with “We don’t pop molly we just deck halls with bows of holly.”
