Box of Stars, a non-profit dedicated to promoting mental health awareness through music, is currently raising funds for a new tribute album to Sparklehorse and the late Mark Linkous. Titled Last Box of Sparklers, it’s said to feature contributions from Mark Lanegan, The Flaming Lips, Joy Formidable, Phantogram, and Portugal. The Man, among many others.
Below, check out The Flaming Lips’ spacey, noise-addled cover of “Sad and Beautiful World” (via Pitchfork). Make sure to listen closely, as the original track’s guitar line occasionally peaks through the fuzz making for especially poignant moments.
