As noted, members of Wilco, the Grateful Dead offshoot Furthur, Delta Spirit, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Blitzen Trapper, among others, celebrated Thanksgiving Eve by performing a song-for-song tribute to The Band’s 1976 farewell gig, “The Last Waltz”. Now, courtesy of nyctaper, the entire “Complete Last Waltz” from New York’s Capitol Theater is available for download in mp3 or FLAC formats.
The three-and-a-half-hour event featured all 41 songs from the original “Last Waltz”, plus actor Josh Lucas and author Colin Broderick reading from The Canterbury Tales and the poem “Loud Prayer”. Standouts include Cass McCombs’ trio of “The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down”, “Stage Fright”, and “It Makes No Difference”; Nels Cline tackling Eric Clapton’s “Further on Up the Road” and “All Our Past Times”; Eric D. Johnson (of the recently disbanded Fruit Bats) performing Van Morrison’s “Caravan”; and Blitzen Trapper covering Bob Dylan’s “I Don’t Believe You”.
