In 2013, Jack White focused much of his attention on an archival project centered around Paramount Records, a defunct blues label from the 1920s that was home for artists like Louis Armstrong, Ma Rainey, Fletcher Henderson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and Ethel Waters. In conjunction with Revenant Records, White’s Third Man Records recently reissued Paramount’s catalaog as a massive box set featuring 800 songs, original ads from the era, two books, and six 180-gram vinyl LPs, all of which came in a hand-crafted oak case modeled after those that carried phonographs in the 1920s (via Rolling Stone).
This week, White and Revenant Records’ founder Dean Blackwood appeared on Charlie Rose to discuss Paramount, its music, the box set, and more. White also briefly discussed his work at Third Man and decision to go solo. Watch below.
