Download: Built to Spill’s excellent cover of Bob Dylan’s “Jokerman”

Built to Spill have long been able to pull off a great cover, as evidenced by the show-stopping renditions of Blue Oyster Cult’s “(Don’t Fear) The Reaper” and The Smiths’ “How Soon Is Now?” featured on their latest tour. Now, the indie mainstays  continue their cover-song successes by contributing to an upcoming Bob Dylan tribute album. The Idaho-based band expertly takes on “Jokerman”, the opener to Dylan’s 1983 album Infidels, adding more driving guitars and taking out the original’s prominent organ.

The tribute album, entitled Bob Dylan In The 80s: Volume One, will arrive March 25th via ATO Records. Conceived by producers Jesse Lauter (Elvis Perkins, The Low Anthem) and Sean O’Brien, the compilation aims to highlight Dylan’s most ignored, understood, and maligned decade. Along with Built to Spill, the tracklist features some heavy hitters, including Glen Hansard, Aaron Freeman (of Ween), Reggie Watts, Deer Tick, Craig Finn (of The Hold Steady), Blitzen Trapper, Lucius, Slash, and many more.
