Listen: Marissa Nadler’s spellbinding new song, “Was It a Dream”

“Was it a dream? Or something sinister?”, Marissa Nadler curiously coos on “Was It a Dream”, her chilly vocals drifting off like ghosts in the dead of night. Taken from her forthcoming sophomore album, July, the dreamy folk number follows similarly spectral lead single “Dead City Emily”, but benefits from an especially muscular arrangement of fuzzy guitars and wincing strings. It’s at once soothing and sweeping, slow-burning and immediate. Check it out below.

July is due out February 4th via Sacred Bones. It was recorded in Seattle’s Avast Studio with producer Randall Dunn (Sunn O))), Akron/Family, The Cave Singers).
