No stranger to collaborations or covers, BBC Sound of 2014 winner Sam Smith returns with a heartbreaking rendition of “Berlin”, the 2013 single from rising Aussie singer-songwriter RY X. Despite covering it rather faithfully, Smith — whose forthcoming debut In The Lonely Hour is one of the most anticipated of the year — somehow wrings out even more emotions from the gorgeous tear-jerker. It’s a true testament to his impeccable tone (and that baby face doesn’t hurt) that he can bring something extra to an already fully-realized song.
