In the past, Joey Bada$$ songs have soundtracked summer block parties, your Valentine’s rendezvous, and even NBA games. Now, the young emcee’s offered his services to the unlikely domain of UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship), as his song “Mr. Wonderful” will serve as the entrance music during Phil Davis’ upcoming fight against Anthony Johnson.
With a title taken from Davis’ nickname (not quite as menacing as “Rampage” or “The Smashing Machine”), the song doesn’t instantly feel like proper theme music, as Kirk Knight’s beat of jangly drums and choppy bass feels too abstract or experimental. Luckily, Bada$$’ rhymes bring the pain, as he delivers heavy-handed lines about face-shattering kicks and Davis’ unmatched prowess at breaking arms. Not sure if such theme music will actually help secure a KO, but let’s hope Davis at least avoids the fate of this guy.
UFC 172 goes down this Saturday at 10pm/7pm ET. Maybe Bada$$ will make an appearance and/or throw some ‘bows?
