As two of the biggest “Songs of the Summer” in recent memory, Pharrell’s “Happy” and Daft Punk’s “Get Lucky” have been the source of countless parodies. Some have been entertaining, while others, like the Minecraft-inspired “Get Crafty”, have been downright offensive. Now, a true parody professional emerges, as one “Weird” Al Yankovic takes aims at both smash singles.
With “Tacky”, the “Weird” one spoofs “Happy”, calling out everyone who dares wear plaid with stripes or starts every meal by posting a picture to Instagram. The lyrical content may be less “life is great!” and more “stop being awful people”, but Yankovic offers a joyful video. Joined by Jack Black, Aisha Tyler, Margaret Cho, Eric Stonestreet, and other actors and comedians, Yankovic shimmies and struts his way through the Palace Theatre in downtown Los Angeles. Really digging that sweet airbrushed t-shirt there, Al.

For his take on “Get Lucky”, Yankovic picks up his trusty accordion, ’cause, ya know, polka and parody totally go together like Twinkies and hot dogs. The result isn’t quite as funky and playful as the original, but its rapid-fire barrage of brassy horns, slight banjo, and Big Band harmonies feels suited for an old Looney Tunes short. Seriously, make that video posthaste.

Both tracks appear on Yankovic’s upcoming 14th studio album, Mandatory Fun, due out July 15th via RCA. (“Get Lucky” actually appears as the finale to the medley “NOW That’s What I Call Polka!”.)
