Brian Eno curates box set of Fela Kuti reissues

In recent years, there’s been a number of compilations celebrating Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti. In addition to the all-star covers album, Red Hot + Fela,, Knitting Factory Records has released two vinyl box sets compiling several Kuti reissues. The first, released in 2011, was curated by The Roots’ Questlove, while Cream’s Ginger Banker helmed last year’s installment.

Now, the label has announced a third such box set, curated by ambient legend Brian Eno. As Pitchfork points out, Eno selected six albums from Kuti’s sizable discography: 1971’s London Scene, 1972’s Shakara, 1973’s Gentlemen and Afrodisiac, 1976’s Zombie and Upside Down, and 1980’s I.T.T. The box set will also feature a 12-page booklet containing Eno’s foreword, a series of commentaries by Afrobeat writer/historian Chris May, and song lyrics.

The Eno-curated box set hits shelves on September 29th (pre-orders are ongoing). Below, watch Eno discuss Kuti during an interview behind the release of Red Hot + Fela.
