In the four years since the release of their last album, King Khan & BBQ Show have have run into some legal trouble. Turns out there’s a barbecue joint in Berlin called “KING KHAN UND BBQ,” and the restaurant recently filed a lawsuit against the garage rock duo. In response, the band has changed its name back to its original moniker, Bad New Boys.
Along with news of the rebranding comes a new song entitled, “We Are The Champion”. Serving as the title track to the band’s new album, the punchy garage rocker is infused with a retro crackle and lo-fi rust.
The band said in a statement, “This was the first song we wrote for the album. Not the best song on the record, and not a single, but where our heads were at during the recording.” Even though the track’s explanation undersells its charm, its ambling, fuzzy sensibilities still make it a worthy listen.
