Listen: Flaming Lips side project Electric Würms share new song “Transform!!!”

The Flaming Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd recently teamed with Nashville psych rockers Linear Downfall to form a new band called Electric Würms. In this “fantastical prog-rock kind of a jam band,” the two longtime bandmates swap places, with Drozd serving as singer and Coyne playing bass. On August 19th, they’ll release their debut album, Musik, Die Shwer Zu Twerk, via Warner Bros. Records.

Already the collective have shared two of effort’s six tracks: a mind-blowing cover of Yes’ “Heart of the Sunrise” and an acid jazz/prog-rock fusion monster entitled “The Bat”. Today, Electric Würms share “Transform!!!”. With its barrage of snarling guitars, Yoko Ono-inspired wailing vocals, and cannonade of drums, it’s the equivalent of strapping a rocket to your back and flying through a painting by H.R. Giger. If they really wanted to this hyperactive number justice, though, they’d toss about six more exclamation marks into the title.
