Watch: Ryan Adams and The Shining perform on Fallon

Taylor Swift was a guest on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last night, but she never got the chance to pick up a guitar. Instead, Fallon invited on a songwriter with a little more alt edge: Ryan Adams. Supporting his forthcoming self-titled 14th studio album, Adams ran through lead single “Gimme Something Good”. Watch the replay below. Update: He also performed “My Wrecking Ball” and “Kim” as a web exclusive.

Aside from the stellar performance, however, the biggest takeaway is the revelation that Adams’ band is called The Shining. Though, with this guy, you can never be too sure what is truth and what is a joke.

What we do know for certain: Ryan Adams is due September 9th on the artist’s own Pax-Am label. So far we’ve heard studio versions of “My Wrecking Ball” and “Gimme Something Good”, plus a handful of live debuts. Expect Adams to continue to air the new leg of his North American tour; see those dates here.
