Spencer Krug and Dan Boeckner announce new EPs with their respective post-Wolf Parade projects

Montreal indie rockers Wolf Parade have been on an “indefinite hiatus” following their 2011 North American tour. Since then, their respective members have remained busy, with each embarking on various solo projects.

As Moonface, keyboardist Spencer Krug has released two albums in two years: 2012’s With Siinai: Heartbreaking Bravery  and last fall’s Juia With Blue Jeans On. Meanwhile, guitarist Dan Boeckner has spent the last two years working with Divine Fits, and recently formed a new band called Operators alongside drummer Sam Brown and Devojka.

Now, in an exciting bit of happenstance, both Krug’s Moonface and Boeckner’s Operators have simultaneously announced the release of new EPs.

Due out September 16th via Jagjaguwar, Moonface’s City Wrecker EP was recorded late last year, shortly before Krug returned back home from his temporary residency in Helsinki, Finland. As our first taste of the five-track effort, Krug has shared its title track. Similar to Julia With Blue Jeans On, “City Wrecker” hears Krug accompanied solely by piano, his voicing achieving a kind of Nick Drake-esque folksiness over the minimalist thud of the ivory.

In an accompanying statement, Krug explained the track’s rather tangential connection to one Miley Cyrus: “In describing the song (and maybe the whole EP) I would say it’s the aesthetic opposite of ‘Wrecking Ball’ by Miley Cyrus, which is not to say that’s a good thing or a bad thing, just an apple for you to hold up beside your orange.”

Meanwhile, Operators self-released their debut EP, the aptly-tilted EP1, this week. Recorded at Montreal’s Hotel2Tango, the five-track effort includes the band’s sole single, the booming dance number “True”.

In support of the EP, Operators will be on tour through mid-September, opening for Future Islands on most stops. Consult the full schedule below.
