Ab-Soul releases new song “W.W.S.D.” — listen

Ab-Soul is in the midst of an extensive North American tour in support of his debut album, These Days. Last night, he offered up a dispatch from the road in the form of a brand new single entitled, “W.W.S.D.” (that’s “What Would Soul Do”).

Appropriately, the track hears the TDE MC rapping over Jackson Browne’s folk classic “These Days”. Whereas a gentle, twangy ballad might seem like an odd fit such a visceral rapper, Ab-Soul makes proficient use of the forlorn vibe (and Browne’s chilling harmonies). Choking down a clear sense of discomfort, Ab-Soul unloads mounds of his own emotional baggage, including the especially painful line “So many pills I should’ve slipped already/ My lungs the same color as my lips already.” Deep and utterly revelatory, the track offers profound insight into a sky-rocketing rapper as he continues to struggle with his own inner turmoil.

Listen in below.

Ab-Soul’s tour runs now through November 7th in San Antonio, Texas. Consult the full schedule here.
