This weekend, Beyoncé and Jay Z wrapped up their “On the Run” world tour with a pair of shows in Paris. However, the Carter-Knowles family isn’t done quite yet: on September 20th, HBO will premiere a concert special documenting the husband-and-wife’s epic co-headlining tour. In anticipation, the duo is releasing a series of cinematic short films directed by Dikayl Rimmasch.
Entitled Bang Bang, the three-part series draws heavily from the mythos of Bonnie and Clyde, as it depicts Beyoncé and Jay Z as two outlaws “on the run.”
Rimmasch relayed the couple’s intention with the film in an interview with Nowness, saying, “We’re not trying to do this literally, it’s not that we’re Bonnie and Clyde. We’re on the run from everything. On the run from becoming a cliché. On the run from doing the same thing again.”
