Detroit rapper/producer Black Milk will release his new album, If There’s A Hell Below, on October 28th via his own imprint, Computer Ugly. After previewing the LP earlier this year with “What Its Worth” and “Detroit’s New Dance Show”, today, he’s unveiled a new track called “Gold Piece”, featuring Southern MC Bun B.

In the press materials, Black Milk explains that the song “is a story about how the only role models for young guys in the hood are the older guys that hustle on their blocks. They’re often the only example of what young guys see themselves becoming once they’re older, and the cycle continues for generations to come.”

Growing up in the Motor City with the “slums and the slaughters” certainly informs the compelling “Gold Piece”. Here, despite the use of a soulful sample, there’s a feeling of perpetual hopelessness when Black Milk raps about being “in the belly of the beast.”
