Just before recording Transgender Dysphoria Blues, Against Me! parted ways with their drummer Jay Weinberg in rather unceremonious fashion when Weinberg simply announced his departure on Twitter, without informing the band first. When asked why Weinberg had left, Against Me! frontwoman Laura Jane Grace told Spin, “To be honest, I have no idea. He never said a word. I just woke up one morning and read on Twitter that he was leaving the band.”
Now Weinberg has found a new home with Slipknot (do we need to remind you that this guy once played with the E Street Band?), and Grace had some choice words for the drummer and his nu metal band. “Dear Slipknot, good luck with that. #shitbag,” she wrote on Twitter.
But that’s not all she had to say. Apparently fueled by a “salty” feeling due to a lack of caffeine, Grace revealed a few stories about Against Me!’s time with Weinberg.
That penultimate tweet makes it clear she’s talking about Weinberg, however the next tweet leaves it suspicious that any of these stories are actually true. “I’m just kidding,” she wrote, “none of that ever happened.” Though, once again, she followed up with an expression of residual animosity:
In the same Spin interview referenced above (dated January 14th, 2014), Grace stated that she had “never talked to [Weinberg] since” he left the band back in late 2012. Oh, and Grace’s final tweet on the matter?
