In honor of the 20th anniversary of the Academy Award-winning film Forrest Gump, its chart-topping soundtrack will be reissued on vinyl for the first time ever in North America. Due out on November 4th, the remastered 32-track collection will span three LPs, each one boasting a patriotic shade of red, white, and blue.
The choice in vinyl color can be attributed to the music itself, which features American classics by Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Simon & Garfunkel, and the Four Tops, among many others.
“All the material in there is American,” soundtrack producer Joel Sill told Rolling Stone of the song selection. “Bob [Zemeckis, the movie’s director] felt strongly about it. He felt that Forrest wouldn’t buy anything but American [music].”
Screenwriter Eric Roth further emphasized the importance of said music and its effect on the film’s overall narrative, adding: ”Forrest Gump is about time; a simple man’s journey through complicated times. The coming-of-age of a generation and a country. And at the heart of the story is the music, music that lives with us, always there to remind us of the people, the places, and the events of our time.”
The Forrest Gump vinyl reissue will only be available for a limited time and each LP will be hand-numbered. Pre-orders are ongoing.
