This week, Joey Bada$$ kicks off his “B4DAMONEYTOUR”, a global jaunt that sees him on road in the US, Canada, the UK, and Europe through mid-December. To commemorate the occasion, the rising MC has released a brand new single entitled, “Get Paid”.
If you managed to miss Bada$$’s earth-shattering 1999 mixtape, then the track itself should serve as a pretty good introduction to the 19-year-old MC. DJ Relly Rell’s production of mutilated organ and skittish drums encapsulates the raw, ’90s-inspired aesthetic Bada$$ has cultivated in his brief run. Lyrically, the frills-free beat lets the Brooklyn native show off the extent of lyrical skills, unleashing a barrage of cutting wordplay, jagged-edged insults, and deep-seated truths, all of which all center on an insatiable hunger to establish his very own dynasty. My personal favorite line, though, goes to “Now you could be the prophet, or you could be the scholar/ But what’s power, if knowing that your knowledge make you richer than the dollar/ Who couldn’t afford college, but n***a paid attention.”
Listen in below.
This tour comes as Bada$$ preps his upcoming debut album, B4.Da.$$., due out sometime next year. In addition to lead single “Big Dusty”, Bada$$ recently told MTV News that the LP is set to feature cameos from DJ Premier, Hit-Boy, and Statik Selektah, plus Pro Era running buddies Kirk Knight and Chuck Strangers.
Consult the full tour schedule below; the North American leg runs through November 11th in New York.
