On October 14th, Kevin Morby returns with his sophomore album, Still Life, via Woodsist. The 10-track effort follows November’s Harlem River and is inspired by the former Woods bassist’s recent move from New York City to Los Angeles.
“The album reflects both this time in transit and the quiet confines of his new home in Montecito Heights,” a press release notes. “Scenes of performers, audience expectations and the paradoxical confines of a roving individual perpetually caught in a crowd percolate the songs … Violent fates, wrestling with destiny and the nature of death … the characters in these songs seem to never quite find each other, but perhaps they find themselves.”
Previously we heard “Parade”, Morby’s elegy to the late, great Lou Reed. Now, he’s shared “All Of My Life”, a cozy and slow-burning folk number about endlessly waiting and pining for someone to no avail. Despite its soft glow, it has a subtle sway and swagger that calls to mind Roy Orbison’s “You Got It”, which, interestingly enough, is also about tenacious love.

Morby described the vision behind the clip, telling NPR Music:
“We shot the video in my dear friend Patrick O’Dell’s backyard. Patrick is a very talented skate photographer/videographer and creator/host of the Internet TV show Epically Later’d. Our intention was to re-create an old country talk show on a shoe string. We brought over next-door neighbor Tim Presley (of White Fence fame), threw a bolo tie on him, and asked him to host. It turns out he’s a natural, as you will see.”
