Singer-songwriters Laura Marling and Eddie Berman share a mutual interest in bleak and moody folk rock. The pair previously teamed up for a breathtaking rendition of Bruce Springsteen’s inescapable “Dancing In The Dark”, and now they’re at it again with their cover of Bob Dylan’s definitive classic, “Like A Rolling Stone”. Set to appear on Berman’s upcoming debut album, Polyhymnia, the duo is teasing its morose collaboration by sharing an in-studio performance clip.
Berman and Marling take a similar approach as they did with their Springsteen rendition, transforming the song from an invigorated and rousing anthem into more delicate and pensive ballad. Berman slowly plucks his acoustic guitar while delivering an earnest drawl, his voice soaked in smokey forlorn. Meanwhile, Marling’s complete lack of movement belies the rich and stirring sentiments that permeate her vocals. Even if Dylan’s original already felt like a truly scathing indictment, this new version takes those emotions and wallows in them even deeper.

Polyhymnia is due out October 21st.
