Listen: Stars’ new song “Turn It Up”

Stars apparently recorded their seventh studio album, No One Is Lost, one floor above a discotheque. No doubt drawing inspiration from their luxurious and celebratory surroundings, the Canadian quintet filled the album’s 11 tracks with a sense of disco wonderment and abandon.

But whereas lead single “From The Night” feels like a mid-party crowd-pleaser, “Turn It Up” is clearly meant for the morning after. There are no undulating bass grooves or shimmery synth surges; instead, the more elegant, mournful synths and chorus-like harmonies are just slightly bubblier versions of the band’s trademark synthpop. It’s still worthy of a bit of booty shakin’, but only for those people closing a night out with one last euphoric, pre-hangover strut across the dance floor.

No One Is Lost is due out October 14th via ATO Records. In support, Stars will be on tour in the US starting in November. Consult their full schedule here.
